Nao Kawashima

Founder of MEL Music LLC / Concert pianist/                     Music director

Nao is an award-winning concert pianist and accompanist.

She has performed solo recitals and accompanied instrumentalists and opera singers at major venues in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. These include George Mason University (2011), the University of the District of Columbia (2013), Morgan State University (2018–2020), and Towson University (2015–2026).  

Nao has also performed at the Kennedy Center (2007), the University of Maryland Chapel (2008), Strathmore Mansion (2013), the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (2023–2026), and the Xfinity Center (2024), among others.

Nao has also worked with high schools, such as Elizabeth Seton High School for the choir since 2023, the strings and choir at Eleanor Roosevelt High School from 2013 to 2025, and at DeMatha Catholic High School in 2024. She has served as a musical accompanist for the Maryland State Solo and Ensemble competition for over a decade.

Nao is a member of the Friday Morning Music Club.

Since 2025, she has been the music director at the JBAB    (Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling - Air Force) Chapel.

Her compositions have been featured in events, products, and videos. One of her most recent compositions was released in the film “Goyo Pine Bonsai Hiroshima Survivor”.

Since July 18, 2025, her original compositions have been available on MuseScore.
